You have taken the trouble to load your video onto YouTube and obviously you want to attract viewers.
There are a number of ways of doing this as you will see from my other articles and videos. This article and video are about posting comments on other videos.
The first question you may ask is :
“Why leave comments on other videos ?”
The answer is that if you leave a meaningful comment, other viewers may see it and if it is a good answer they may visit your channel and videos.
Here are the steps that I take :
1 Find other videos in your niche.
For example, if you are interested in dog training just type “dog training” into the YouTube search bar.
At the moment that will result in over 8 million results, which you want to reduce.
2 Use the filter
A lot of videos may have been there a long time,so I use the filter and select those loaded this year. This reduces it slightly, but we still have over 7 million results.
There are other filters that you can use, and I like the relevance filter.
3 Open a spreadsheet
I then open a spreadsheet. You can use Excel if you have Microsoft Office but if you haven’t bought that you can use Google docs which is free and very similar to Excel.
4 Select some videos
I then look through the videos and see which ones interest me from the thumbnail and the title.
When I watch the video I look at the number of views, comments and the dates of the comments.
What I am looking for are videos that have had recent comments
5 Enter the details on the spreadsheet
On the spreadsheet I record the YouTube URL, the number of views and the number of comments. I normally track 20-30 videos.
6 Start to comment
This is the important part, so it is worth taking some time to do it properly.
I normally watch the video and take some notes after which I make a comment.
The comment should not be spammy and should not be trying to sell anything.
“Great video, keep up the good work” is unlikely to entice anybody to watch your video.
If you want an idea of what to comment, look at some of the other comments and see what would make you click through to the commenter’s video.
I try to make the comment relevant by picking out something in the video. This shows that I have watched the video.
I also try to make it personal,so if the name of the person is included I use that name in the comment.
7 Comment consistently
This is quite time consuming, so I try not to do too much. You may start with 2 comments a day. If you do that, try and be consistent and do it every day. It is often quoted that if you do the same thing every day, it becomes a habit.
This is well worth doing, but it can be time consuming. If you cannot commit the time, it is better to use one of the other methods of getting more views.
An unexpected bonus, is that you will probably learn things about your niche, which you can use for your own article and video.
