How to get more traffic to your site by writing good content

If you are involved in blogging or you are developing your own web site, you may well be looking to earn money off the Internet. You probably have a great idea so you go ahead and write lots of great content. You are convinced this is what people want, so you sit back and wait for the traffic to arrive.

Unless you are really lucky, it is unlikely you will see the flood of traffic that you anticipated. There are a number of reasons for this, the first of which is that content is only the first step in attracting those targeted visitors you are so desperate you need for your success.

Let’s look at some of the factors that will help you to succeed:

Content

As we have mentioned, content is the first step you need to take. Many people write their content for the search engines. By this I mean they look at factors like keyword density, which is the number of times your keyword (s) appear in your article. At one stage this was very important, but the search engines realised that people were exploiting the situation by adopting tactics called “keyword stuffing”. Literally this meant inserting your main keyword phrase in the article a lot of times.

Ideally your article should be informative, in demand and relevant. If you write content that satisfies these conditions, there is a good chance that your readers will stay on your web site and will interactive with you.

As many of you are involved in Internet Marketing, the main type of article that attracts a lot of visitors is one that solves a problem.

What’s the easiest way to earn money on the Internet?

How do I get my video seen on YouTube?

If you want to attract a lot of visitors, it is advisable that you are solving an issue for many people. Rather than guess, one of the sites I use is:

Here you will see the type of issues that people are trying to resolve.

Look at some of the questions and see how many people are watching. If it is a major issue then a lot of people will be following it, so it is worth trying to provide a solution.

For example, I have just seen somebody ask on Quora :

“How do I promote my video on YouTube?”

What you can do here is research this topic and then write an article in reply to the question. If people like your answer they will click on your link back to your web site.

There are various debates as to how long the article should be. The consensus of opinion is that it should be 1,000 to 1,500 words.

Relevant and topical content

It may sound obvious but your content should be topical. You need to watch the trends and try to provide solutions in topical, growing markets. For example, if you are involved in Internet Marketing, you will know that YouTube has been very popular and shows no sign of slowing down. If you can learn about YouTube then you will be involved in a growing market.

Conversely if we look at article directories, these were very popular a few years ago when it was suggested that in order to rank high in the search engines, you needed to submit your content to the major article directories. Most marketers will tell you that article directories do not have the influence that they did a few years ago. Therefore, it may not be a good idea to spend too much time on learning about article directories.

How To Improve Your Knowledge

If we take the example above and you decide to learn more about YouTube you probably want to know how to learn more.

Firstly, one great place is YouTube itself. If you search on:

“How to promote my video on YouTube?” you will find so many different answers, and all the answers are free.

A site that I use is https://www.udemy.com/

You will normally have to pay for these courses, but very often there are promotions available which make the courses very affordable.

I have just searched on the YouTube phrase above and found over 6,300 courses available. Against each offering you can see the ratings, comments as well as the number of people who have taken the course. It is worth looking through the options to find the right one for you. I would suggest going for a course that has attracted a lot of readers and is highly rated.

I like Udemy as the training is video based which is my preferred way of learning. Very often you will be able to preview the first few videos. This is well worth doing as you will quickly see if the style of the supplier is right for you.

Keywords

When I mention keywords many people switch off or find it too complicated.

There is a lot to keywords and Search Engine Optimization and it is not possible to cover it in this article.

If you are involved in Internet Marketing and you have written an article or made a video on how to make money online, the chances of ranking for that key phrase is not very high. Just looking at google there are over 3 billion competitors for this search term.

There are lots of tools available to help you with keyword analysis but the best thing to do is expand the search phrase and use what are known as long tailed keywords. For example if you used:

“How to make money online without investing anything” there are 263 million results. That is still too many but if you continue to drill down you will find a search term that you can use.

You can use a free tool called Google Keyword Planner which will help you further.

There are many other ways to help your blog or web site being found, but the more you have to do, the more complex things become.

Personally, I write an article for my own web site and I normally make a video which I load onto YouTube.

How to get traffic to your site using Quora

I have written a number of articles and made some videos on how to get more traffic to our web sites. A site which may be new to you is Quora. I have been using this site for some time now and have been pleasantly surprised by the good results. 

If you haven’t used it before it is a question and answer site, where people ask all sorts of questions and other members answer the questions. It is not just for the Internet, but for other business-related matters as well as personal matters.

Here are the steps I suggest.

1 Set up your account-it is free to join.

2 Set up your profile– as with other sites it is best to include a photo to make it more personal.

Add your interests so that other members can see what you do.

Also add a link to your web site or blog.

3 Add what you know about.

This is how Quora know what questions you may answer.

For example, you may be interested in Search Engine Optimization and Video Marketing.

4 Follow other members

If you have a particular interest, e.g., SEO and you know somebody in that sector then follow them. It will be worth looking at their profile to monitor their activity.

5 Take a good look around the site.

Before starting your activity, it is well worth looking at the sort of questions being posted as well as the answers.

6 Start to answer questions

This is how you will attract traffic to your site so it is worth spending time on this activity. To get noticed you need to answer questions that attract a lot of interest as well as being topical.

Perhaps you want to answer questions on Instagram, in which case enter that into the search bar at the top and you will see all the questions and answers.

Personally, I look for posts that have a lot of answers so that my answer will also be seen by a lot of members. I concentrate on quality rather than quantity, by which I mean that I write fewer articles comprehensively rather than answer lots of questions for the sake of it.

7 What to include in your article

I try to answer the question as fully as possible, rather than writing just a few words. My main aim is to inform NOT TO SELL. The only time I promote is if somebody has asked a particular question and I have written an article or made a video.

For example if somebody asks the question :

“How do I post my YouTube video to social media sites?”

I would answer that this can be done within YouTube without using software.

As I have written an article and made a video I would add :

“If you would like to see how this is done please visit …… where I include my link.”

I am finding that using Quora has been beneficial and has the following benefits :

1 More traffic to my site-in order for this to be successful, consistency is the key.

You don’t have to answer lots of questions, but be consistent and answer a few each week.

2 Learning a lot- just by reading other people’s answers I have extended my knowledge, which I can use in my business.

3 Ideas for posts-as people are asking topical questions,it has given me lots of ideas about my future posts.

How to optimize your YouTube video to generate traffic

Once you have made your video, the next step is to make sure that you can generate traffic. This means being found in YouTube searches. 

We need to optimize our video by using Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

In this article, and associated video, we will outline 5 strategies we can adopt to drive targeted traffic to our video.

Although there are billions of web sites and videos by adopting the right strategies we can be found high in the YouTube searches.

Here are the 5 strategies we recommend :

1 Compose an outstanding video title

This is the first thing viewers will see so we need to make it appealing so that viewers click on our video.

It is best to keep the title to less than 10 words and 100 characters.

People do not read more than 9 words in the search, so it is important to keep it short.

Actions and numbers work well, e.g.

“How to Gain Massive Leads in Three Days”

You should also include a benefit and use words like new, secret, best, etc.

“Discover the new way to lose weight in 14 days”

As well as a benefit it is advisable that the video solves a problem, e.g. losing weight, earning money to pay off debts, etc.

Insert keywords. Words like best and secret are found to be used a lot in searches, and have been proven to generate more clicks.

2 Compelling Descriptions

This is frequently overlooked by many people.

It is important because these words are the ones found by search engines.

The first 3 lines are important as these are the ones seen by viewers on YouTube.

Repeat your keyword phrase in the first line.

On your second line include your link to the service or product you are promoting. If your link is www.mysite.com/howtoloseweight you should include the full http, http://mysite.com/howtoloseweight

The reason is that the link is clickable when you include http.

You want to make it easy for people who will be happy to click a link but will be unlikely to copy and paste if you only include www

3 Tags

These are very important and are equivalent to keywords in searches such as google.

You are allowed up to 500 characters, so use as many as possible.

4 Video Thumbnail

You should include text within your thumbnail.

5 Call To Action

At the end of the video have a call to action.

This may be to click on your link or subscribe to your channel.

How to get traffic to your site using blogger

I have written a number of articles and made some videos on the theme “how to get traffic to your web site”.  

Some people rely on SEO and posting to sites such as Facebook and twitter.

If we take the subject of SEO, it takes a lot of work and skill to get onto the front pages of the search engines. For most people, this is a step too far so we need to look at other ways of driving traffic.

It is well worth posting to Facebook and twitter but there are other sites that we should consider.

One of these is Blogger, which is owned by google.

There are various debates about Blogger v WordPress.

Personally I don’t see it as an either/or as I use both.

If you have taken the time to write an article and possibly make a video the easy bit is to post to a number of different sites.

It doesn’t take much time to post manually to Blogger but if you want to make life easier,there are various bits of software as well as WordPress plugins that will let you post automatically to Blogger.

The benefits of using Blogger are as follows :

1 It is easy to use,but if you need to know how to do something a simple search on Google or YouTube will provide you with the necessary information.

2 It is free

This is a huge benefit if you are on a budget.

3 Free hosting from Google

As well as free hosting, you get 99.999% uptime.

Also, your site will not suffer degradation of performance.

4 You show up in the search engines faster

Blogger sites are added to the Google search engine within 24 hours,which gives you a huge advantage over other sites.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Blogger is well worth using.

I have used both Blogger and WordPress and I like both. However, at times WordPress can be more difficult to use than Blogger.

If you post to Blogger and make a video and post to YouTube, you may have an unfair advantage in the search engines as both of these are owned by Google.

How to generate traffic using StumbleUpon

Another way of generating more traffic to your web site is to use www.stumbleupon.com        

If you have not used this site before, it is regarded as one of the top social media sites for driving   traffic to your web sites.

Like many of these sites, you need to create an account which is free.

Here are the steps to take :

1 Create an account

In the top right hand corner you can “Join For Free”.

Alternatively, you can sign in with your Facebook account.

2 Set up your profile

This is similar to other social media sites.

The most important step is to add your profile photo.

3 Add your interests

You will see lots of interests or you can search for your own interests.

Once you have your interests, you will see the number of people following those interests.

4 Connect to other accounts

Within your account you can connect to your other accounts :

Facebook

Google +

Twitter

This is well worth doing

 

As with most social media sites it is a matter of sharing and engagement.

In order to become more visible, there are a number of things that you can do.

5 Follow people in your niche(s)

Build this up gradually. You may find lots of good content among these people.

6 Like Pages

As you see articles that you like, give the thumbs up

7 Make Comments

If you see an article that you like, add a meaningful comment.

If it is interesting, other people will click on your link.

 

8 Add the stumble upon button to your browser

This will enable you to like blog posts that you see

9 Add the stumble button to your web site.

This will let other people share your content

There are a number of plug ins that will do this for you.

If you type into the search engine something like :

“wordpress plug ins to auto post to stumble upon”

You will find a number of solutions.

Make sure that you do the necessary due diligence on these plug ins.

The factors I consider are :

1 The number of downloads-you want to make sure,this has been downloaded more than a few times.

2 It has good reviews-look for 5 star ratings.

3 Recently updated -if the plug in has not been updated for several months or years,this is not a good sign.

 

Although there are lots of plug ins one that is quite popular is SNAP (Social Networks Auto Poster) from NextScripts, which will allow you to post to many different social media sites automatically from your WordPress site.
