positive mental attitude-9 simple steps

Most of us realise that a positive mental attitude is the key to success. If that is the case then all we need to do is to adopt such an attitude and we will all be successful. However, for various reasons, a lot of us are not positive all the time.

Many factors affect our well-being and sometimes bad news means we are not as positive as we would like to be. Like many people, I have found myself being less than positive and I knew I had to get out of it somehow.

The way I got out of it was to sit down and write down all the things that I think are important for me to be positive. I have written them on small cards, take them with me, and read them when I have the opportunity.

Here are the things that help me to get and stay motivated.

1 Having a clear and achievable goal.

This really is important and I have spent a lot of time on all aspects of goal setting, and have written a book on the subject.

To achieve success in any field, it is important to have a goal as well as a plan on how you are going to achieve that goal. A goal is not something you write down, put in a drawer and never look at it again.

I look at my goals every day, and revise them accordingly.

2 Keep your focus

There are so many distractions in our life that it is easy to lose focus, and it takes a lot of will power to stay focussed. It may help to remember

Follow One Course Until Successful

3 Overcome All Obstacles Put In Your Way

As you travel on your path to success, there will no doubt be many obstacles put in your way.

Some of these may be easy to overcome, but many may be difficult. It is the difficult ones that cause many people to give up. However, as we are going to be successful, we will continue to overcome all obstacles.

4 Never, ever give up

This is a quote famously credited to Winston Churchill, a famous British Prime Minister. He was a leader in the Second World War where he faced many difficulties. Very few of us will face the hostilities that he faced, so we should take his advice and never, ever give up.

5 Eliminate all negative thoughts

It is useful to put this into place at the start of each day.

When you think something is difficult and you feel like saying “I cannot do that”, replace it with “I will do that”. Then you will find a way of doing it.

If I ever doubt this I always think of examples in the past.

Take the case of Roger Bannister.

In the early 1950s, doctors suggested that it was impossible to run a mile in under 4 minutes. They suggested any such attempt would be dangerous to the athletes who attempted it.

Roger Bannister had other ideas and duly ran the first sub-4 minute mile on 6th May 1954.His time was 3 minutes 59.4 seconds so he had achieved what many considered IMPOSSIBLE.

In the year after that momentous day,24 more athletes ran the mile in under 4 minutes. Now, it is no longer a target as the world mile record is 3 minutes 43.13 seconds.

That puts things into perspective.

6 Eliminate negative people from your team

When you are striving for success, there will be people who doubt you and will say things like:

“You will never do that”

“It can’t be done”

“Why don’t you get a proper job?”

You may have known these people for a long time, but you need to remove them from your team. You only want to mix with like-minded people.

7 Look on failure as an education not a negative

Most successful people have failed on the road to success.

Michael Jordan, one of the greatest basketball players of all time, will tell you how many times he failed.

Thomas Edison was a prolific inventor and had lots of failures when inventing the light bulb. When asked how he felt about failing 10,000 times, he famously replied:

“I have not failed 10,000 times, I have found 10,000 things that don’t work, which brings me closer to the thing that will work.”

8 Be enthusiastic all the time

In your quest for success, there will be times when you don’t feel motivated and don’t feel like motoring towards to success. It happens to all of us but you need to overcome these feelings as quickly as possible.

When people ask me how I am I normally reply “Fantastic” whether I am feeling like that or not. It certainly makes me feel better and takes people by surprise. Most people react positively and tell me that it has made them feel better.

9 Take control of your own destiny

As we know, from time to time, things won’t necessarily go all our own way.

In such situations, it is easy to blame other people for not doing things. It is easy to blame the economic situation.

However, to be successful we have to take control of our own destiny. There will always be times when people that we rely on do not do what they are expected. We have to manage this. Also, the economy may not be quite as we expect. However, there are always people who succeed whatever the situation.

We need to be one of those people who succeed whatever the situation.

always give your best-put everything into every small action

In personal development, there will be lots of actions we need to take.

Hopefully, we will have set our goals, mapped out our actions and decided what needs to be done. There will be a mixture of actions. Initially you may be tempted to think some actions are more important than others.

HOWEVER ALL ACTIONS ARE IMPORTANT AND YOU MUST GIVE 100% TO ALL OF THEM

Many people who have been on a path of personal and spiritual growth have spent a lot of time talking. Talking with friends about what is wrong and what they want. Talking with therapists about their past and their beliefs. Talking with a mate about what needs changing. They have explored and explored and talked and talked – and not much has changed.

Exploring our limiting beliefs and where we got them is essential for opening the door to action, but taking is the secret to success.  We can talk and talk and learn and learn, but until we are willing to take action, nothing will change. It is not that it is time to stop learning about our fears and beliefs, but it is time for all this learning to result in action.

Many people continue to talk and want everything to be perfect before starting out.

The best thing to do is to take action, give 100% to all actions and learn from our mistakes.

WHO IS IN CHARGE OF THE ACTIONS WE TAKE?

We are always taking action, yet much of the time the actions may not seem important. Remember all these actions are important. It is a bit like a jigsaw puzzle made up of hundreds or thousands of pieces. If we miss one piece, the picture is not complete.

This is the same as our personal development plan. If we do not complete all actions and give 100% to all actions, it is unlikely that we will achieve the success that we are looking for.

ACTION V INACTION

Action is the single most effective antidote to depression, anxiety, stress, fear, worry, guilt, and of course, immobility. It is virtually impossible to be depressed and active at the same time. Even if you wanted to, it is difficult to keep on moping, complaining, lolling around and wallowing in self-pity if you get active and do something. Anything! Just doing is such an important part of being a fully functioning person.

In fact, that lack of action is not a result of depression; it is the cause. Don’t be paralyzed by the fear of making a mistake. Taking action, gives you momentum. Initiating the effort attracts opportunities and synergistic things happen.

Inactivity, on one hand, is most often a choice rather than an inescapable fact of life, while action is a definite way to avoid being victimized by yourself or others.  When you take action, you also take control. Thinking keeps you a prisoner of the past. Action puts you in control of the future.

If you find yourself asking, “Yes, but what can I do” the answer is very, very simple. Anything is a lot more effective than nothing.

Sometimes there may be too much to do which causes many people to sit on the sideline and take no action. I have found myself in this position and what I do is simple :

Break the project down into bite size chunks

Just take one action a day and give 100% to every action, until I am comfortable in taking more.

That represents 30 actions per month, 90 actions per quarter and over 350 actions in the year.

Time Management Tips-Make The Most of Your Time

Time management is so important. It is such a valuable resource because it can only be used once. Often we hear people say “I don’t have enough time” or “I haven’t had time to do that”. We all have the same amount of time, it’s a question of how we make use of that time.

In the video below, Les Brown tells us that we have 1,440 minutes in every day. Faced with that, it is a matter of how we manage our time.

When a person learns time management skills, it will help them to spend more time on more difficult tasks. Because of everyday time constraints, we need to learn how to make the most of our time with our work by doing more important tasks.

Time Management Effectiveness

We handle many different fields depending on what we do. There are many time management techniques that would prove useful for several fields of life. For example, a student can learn and practise time management by applying time management techniques when doing their homework or projects. Using time management techniques and practices can and will help to ensure the quality use of your time and the efficiency of the results that they produce.

Rather than working harder, we can work smarter so that we may realize how much time we can save when we use time management practices. But the success of these techniques largely depends on how you appropriately follow your schedule. A person can tremendously reduce their stress levels when following some time management techniques.

Having A “To Do” List

A basic aspect for effective time management is creating a “To do” list. This can help you cope and deal with the problem of losing time frequently. It is not advisable, however, to have several “To-do” list at once since it might lead to confusion. It is important that you place your list on a location that is easily visible for you. Hence, you will be able to consult the list right away on what your next task is supposed to be. When first faced with the task of compiling a to-do list many people go overboard and write down lots of tasks.

That really is not advisable as it is unlikely that the list will be completed. This will lead to frustration and eventually the “to-do list” will be regarded as a waste of time and will be abandoned.

Personally, I decide on 3 important things that I need to do each day and will devote time until they are completed. This is very satisfying and helps me to manage my time very effectively.

Prioritize

Another good method of time management is to handle daily tasks by prioritizing the more important tasks first. By doing this, you can then be able to separate the tasks that you need to do in accordance with their relevancy and significance. Then, you can deal with each task one at a time.

It is so easy to spend time surfing the Internet , but this should either be done sparingly or not done at all until our tasks have been completed.

Saying “No”

This can be a very difficult one as many people DO NOT like to say no.A very effective time management skill is the ability to say “no” when other less important tasks and affairs are brought up to you and you have more important pending tasks. By learning how to turn them down, it reflects your commitment to follow your schedule and accomplish the task at hand. Once you have mastered how to effectively do this, you will save a lot of time in the future. Not only will you be able to finish your tasks in time, but you will also open up more opportunities to accomplish more.

Time Will No Longer Be Your Enemy

Managing your time is important for several reasons. The most apparent reason is merely completing the job within the time frame you have allocated for it. It saves you from eating up the rest of the time needed for other useful tasks. For some, time is considered an enemy.

But getting yourself familiar with these time management techniques will enable you to enjoy your tasks as you do them, and quit worrying about time as a factor. After all, you cannot stop time from running; you have to keep up with it.

There might no be dramatic changes that comes with proper time management. However, it allows you to become more effective and productive as you continue to plan your days ahead.

Positive thinking

Positive thinking is an amazing tool, but without action it’s a waste of time. Rather than just having a momentary thought it’s more of a way of life. It’s a technique that you use to create positive affirmations that can counter negative thoughts and doubts by neutralizing them and building the self-confidence you need for whatever you want to achieve.

Thinking this way is a skill you can learn and develop with consistent practice, but it is worth it to create a habit of positive thinking?

In some circles positive thinking is sometimes cynically referred to as pollyannaish, a naive and overly optimistic view of life by overlooking the things we don’t like and focusing only on the good.

Do you believe in positive thinking ?

How do you view things, negatively or positively? It can be easy for all of us to focus only on the negative but it’s usually as easy to look for a positive angle to things as it is for a negative angle.

By looking on the positive side we can affect our subconscious mind as we invoke the law of attraction and we can then attract a better set of circumstances into our life. Remember to concentrate on the positive and expect a positive result but did you know that it takes as much effort to think about the negative as it is for the positive.

In some ways positive thinking is infectious and can lead to a ‘can do’ attitude within an individual, a team and an organization. It’s been said that the only difference between a success and a failure is the attitude of mind the person had before they entered that task.

One cannot pay lip service to positive thinking. You need to practise and make positive thinking your prevailing attitude towards life. The very feel of positive thinking itself will help you to feel confident and move towards your goal.

In order to acquire the great status of positive thinker, we must realize what positive thinking is all about and what it is not. Our usual misconceptions about positive thinking are that money will drop out of the sky; GOD will come on a chariot to take away the sufferings and pains and lot more imaginations, while this would be great unfortunately it won’t happen but by staying positive you remain open to new directions and guidance rather than just shutting down and giving up.

Attitude forms an important part of positive thinking whereas thinking contributes lot to the attitude. It’s kind of like the chicken and egg, which came first? If you have a bad attitude ,you’ll never consider changing how you think but can positive thinking change your attitude.

How you answer this age-old question about positive thinking and attitude may reflect your outlook on life, your attitude toward yourself, and whether you’re optimistic or pessimistic.

A positive attitude and optimistic thinking are healthy. When you wholeheartedly adopt a ‘with all your heart’ attitude and go all out with the positive principle, you can do incredible things. Happy, optimistic people are usually described as having positive attitudes and expressing positive thoughts.

Positive thinking is a mental attitude that admits into the mind thoughts, words and images that are conductive to growth, expansion and success.

After Christopher Reeve’s accident in 1995, many people were so deeply touched by his attitude. Of course ,he could have given up and cursed life for giving him a raw deal but he didn’t. But consider this :if he hadn’t have been so brave and positive do you really think he would have survived for so long as he did? And deep down we all admire him for having such a positive attitude and inspiring us all.

No matter what happens to us, we can choose positive thoughts and choose a positive attitude. It may not be something that we were all born with but it’s a way of looking at the brighter side of life that helps us build the life we want.

If you would like to adopt a more positive attitude, but don’t know where to start, one option is to try and change your vocabulary.

For example:

Instead of saying “I cannot do that “, try “I am going to do that”

Instead of saying “That’s not possible” try, “Nothing is impossible”

Try to eliminate as many negative words in the course of a day and you should find that you will achieve more.
